What's on and what's new in Nuneaton & Bedworth

Morning. The clocks have gone back, half-term is nearly done and Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so the weekend is a busy one. There's a fireworks night, a folk festival, ELO tunes in Bedworth and Sinatra at the Abbey. Further down: the bonfire dates for next week, a bit of council business and some local jobs.

  • Fri 30 and Sat 31 Oct: a Bedworth Civic Hall double. Funhouse Comedy Club on Friday (doors 7:15pm, three acts from 8pm, late bar till 11:30pm, ages 14+ and under-18s need a paying adult). Then ELO Again on Saturday at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. Prices are on the ticket pages. Bedworth Civic Hall

On Saturday, Reading Screams runs 10:30am to 11:30am: a spooky story, then making sparkly potion-bottle art. It's for ages 4 to 11 with an adult. All free. Bedworth Library events

  • Fri 30 Oct to Sun 1 Nov: the Ragged Bear weekend at The Crew. A free warm-up on Friday with Shanghai Treason, Rosetta Fire, and Brian Stone and the Masters of None. Saturday is the Ragged Bear Festival itself from 12pm, with Skinny Lister at the top of the bill. Advance tickets are £40, and the pub says it has frozen prices again. The Austrian Stones finish the weekend on Sunday, free. The Crew listings

  • Sat 31 Oct: Matt Ford's Salute to Sinatra at the Abbey Theatre. Swing from Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bublé and friends at 7:30pm, about two hours with an interval. Matt Ford's singing career started in Nuneaton, back in 1990. Box office 02476 327359. Abbey Theatre

  • Sat 31 Oct: Nuneaton Rugby Club fireworks. Gates at 5:30pm and fireworks at 6:30pm. Food's on, the bar's open, and it runs till 11pm. £5 a head, under-3s free. Liberty Way, CV11 6RR. Event details

  • Sun 1 Nov: Nuneaton Indie Market. Makers, bakers and creators in Market Place, 10am to 4pm. Free to wander. Market details

Bedworth's covered market on Mill Street is open Friday and Saturday, 8am to 3pm.

Coming up

  • Fri 6 Nov: Weston Hall fireworks, Bulkington. Gates at 5pm and the display at 7:30pm. You'll also get fire performers, stilt walkers, an aerial artist and a DJ. The funfair and food stalls cost extra. There's no parking on site, so plan how you'll get there. Mill Lane, CV12 9RU. Weston Hall

  • Sat 7 Nov: Nuneaton Charity Bonfire, Jubilee Recreation Fields. Please check before you go. The Round Table's own website hasn't been updated, so these details come from the organisers' 2 October Facebook post, which we read on a listings site. Gates open at 5:30pm, the bonfire's lit at 7pm and the fireworks start at 7:30pm. It's £7 for adults and £3 for children, paid on the gate, and parking is £5. There are no advance tickets, so anyone selling them online is running a scam.

  • Bedworth's bonfire: we can't find a confirmed 2026 date for the Bedworth Charity Bonfire. It didn't run in 2024 or 2025. If you know more, hit reply.

  • Wed 11 Nov: Bedworth Armistice Day. The parade gathers in Church Walk at 10am and sets off at about 10:35am. The service is at the Coventry Road Cemetery war memorial, with a big screen outside, and it's usually over by 12:30pm. In Nuneaton, St Nicolas Church holds a Remembrance service at 10:30am the same morning, and everyone's welcome. Bedworth Armistice Day

  • November at Bedworth Civic Hall includes the UK Pink Floyd Experience (6 Nov), the D-Day Darlings (7 Nov), The Rolling Stones Story (13 Nov) and the Christmas Civic Fayre (21 Nov). The panto, Dick Whittington and his Cat, runs 12 to 24 Dec. See the Civic Hall link above.

  • Over at the Abbey: Come From Away runs 11 to 14 Nov, Lesley Smith is George Eliot is on 18 Nov, and Funhouse comedy is back on 20 Nov (£14 in advance). See the Abbey link above.

  • Save the date: the Sheepy Ploughing Christmas tractor run is back on Fri 11 and Sat 12 Dec. Routes aren't out yet.

Openings and closings icon

New openings (and the odd closing)

  • Back Friday: Ego at The Cedar Tree, Avenue Road. The Mediterranean place by The Pingles shut for a four-week makeover and reopens on Fri 30 Oct. It now has a cosier bar with booth seating, a done-up beer garden and a new private dining area. Bookings are open. Ego Nuneaton

  • Still empty: the old Woolworths, 22 Queens Road. The council's talks with King Edward VI College about the building are off, and the council says there's "no ongoing conversation". It's been empty since 2020 and nobody knows yet what happens to it next. CoventryLive

Nothing new to report from Bedworth town centre this week. Seen a shop opening up? Hit reply and tell us.

Council and planning icon

Council and planning, in plain English

  • More delays at Grayson Place. The food hall and padel courts should be open by now, but both need extra planning permission, and the applications still aren't on the council's planning website. The food hall needed another £800,000 and still has no tenants. An inquiry into the whole project is under way. CoventryLive

  • Have your say by 4 Nov. Three planning notices are open for comments. One is for 10 one-bed flats at the White Lion Inn, Leicester Street, Bulkington (26/0098/FUL). Another would turn Arbury Mill on Griff Lane into a home (26/0024/FUL and 26/0117/LBC). The third is for three units at the Calendar Farm local centre off Watling Street (26/0104/ARM). The online planning register is working again, and the council has added four days to every live consultation. Planning notice

  • Council shake-up costs so far: £89,800. That's what the borough council has spent getting ready for the shake-up that would have merged it into a new North Warwickshire council, before the government paused the plans. The council leader wants the money back. A government update is expected this month. CoventryLive

Local news icon

Local news

  • Marston Lane bridge in Bedworth is open again. It's been more than four months since a lorry hit it in June. Network Rail has fitted a specially made beam that should stand up better to any future knocks. CoventryLive

  • Still one train an hour to Coventry. The new bay platform at Coventry station, which would allow more Nuneaton trains, has slipped again, this time to March 2032. Its cost has gone from a projected £10m to £39.4m. Not great if you catch it from Bedworth or Bermuda Park. CoventryLive

  • George Eliot Hospital expects a lot of flu and Covid. The 'Eliot expects high numbers of both in the coming weeks. If you're visiting, wash your hands and wear a mask when staff ask you to. Stay away altogether if you've got a cough, a cold, a temperature or a stomach bug. CoventryLive

  • Know a local sporting star? Nominations are open for the Nuneaton and Bedworth Sports Forum awards. They cover athletes, coaches, teams and volunteers, and there's a new Rachel Taylor MP Award for long-serving officials. For forms, email [email protected]. The deadline is Mon 7 Dec.

Nights out icon

Nights out

  • Halloween at The Crew. If you'd rather skip the full festival, Friday's warm-up and Sunday's Austrian Stones are both free. The rest of the month at the pub is busy too: Anti-Nowhere League play on 7 Nov (£25) and Cockney Rejects on 27 Nov (£20). Details are at The Crew link above.

  • First drinks back at Ego. The new bar and booths open on Fri 30 Oct, as above.

  • Bedworth Folk Club, Wed 11 Nov. Paul Walker and Karen Pfeiffer, with The Oxeye Daisies supporting, at the Bedworth Ex-Servicemen's Club.

  • Daytime dancing at The Silk Mill. The ABBA Day Party is Sat 14 Nov and the Trance Day Party is Sat 28 Nov, both 3pm to 8pm, with tickets from £12.50.

Boro FC icon

Boro FC

  • Last time out: Boldmere St Michaels 2-1 Nuneaton Town on Sat 24 Oct. Shilton got Boro FC's goal, in front of 193.

  • Next up: Coventry United (H), Sat 31 Oct, at The Oval in Bedworth. We can't confirm the kick-off. The club's website says 7.45pm, but the league fixture lists say 3pm. Check the club's site or socials before you set off. Adults pay £12, concessions £10, students £5 and under-17s £1 with an adult. After that it's Corby Town at home on Tue 3 Nov, 7.45pm. Nuneaton Town FC

  • New faces. Midfielder Connor Pace, 21, has joined from Long Eaton United. James Harrison is back for a second spell after 110 games and 29 goals first time round. He's come from Coventry United, so Saturday could be a bit awkward for him. Club news

  • Fixture change: the Bourne Town home game has moved to Tue 15 Dec, 7.45pm.

  • Bedworth United beat Long Eaton United 3-0 at home on Saturday (Gordon, Dunkley, Rowe). Next it's away at Loughborough Students on Sat 31 Oct, then Barwell at home on Sat 7 Nov, both 3pm. And the derby's in the diary: Bedworth United v Nuneaton Town on Boxing Day, 1pm. Bedworth United fixtures
